Q & A - #4 - "How did you meet your wife? (when did you know you wanted to date her)" ~

I first met my wife nearly 9 years ago, which puts me right at 19 years old. It was a normal Sunday morning church service until one of my best friends (he would be in my wedding 4 years later) strolled up and introduced me to his new girlfriend (my future wife). I didn't know it at the time, nor was I in any way thinking, "I am so going to date his girlfriend." It just happened that way. They didn't last but a couple weeks, and a few weeks (months?) later, the Girlfriendy (copyright
robbiewriter ) and I were kicking a soccer ball back and forth one night after high school Bible study (I was a volunteer counselor at the time, which probably brings up all kinds of other issues that we won't discuss here).
Soccer turned into watching HAPPY GILMORE at her house, which turned into a 2-month stint of high school romance. And then she dumped me. Can you believe that? SHE dumped ME!
Mydays of depression that followed recovery time turned around quick, and my life went back to normal. But not hers. She
had decided that she was going to "Work on her...wait on God" when it came to relationships, and for the next 9 months our families became good friends. Our parents played bridge together. Our families planned game nights and went out for ice cream.
Then she started pursuing me, which of course she would have to have done because she was off my radar. I was totally dating and looking to date other girls, even flirting with other girls in front of her. NOTE: The dumpee typically does not chase down the dumper (did I just call her the dumper?). She chased me down and caught me, and 3 1/2 years later, we were wed.
I remember wanting to date her that first night at the Bible study. She came up afterwards asking me all kinds of questions about my prayer journal and things changed from that point on.
I remember wanting to marry her the night years later when we had an hours-long conversation about all the dirt in our past lives. I figured, if I can talk this openly with a girl about the deepest darkest sides of me and her not flee the room with arms flailing, I might have found myself a keeper.
I had.

I'll be answering one of these questions a day for as many questions as I have, so if you've got anything you wish you could know about me, ASK IT HERE.
